I spent part of 2023 working in the United States Senate, including time in Rand Paul's office.

That chapter happened partly because my KPMG start date got pushed back by around ten months. Instead of waiting around, I used the gap to get closer to a world I had been curious about for a long time.

Growing up, I had always been fascinated by politics and wanted a glimpse of what actually goes on inside the Senate: what people do all day, how decisions move, and what that world feels like from the inside.

One of the cooler parts of the job was drafting questions for a Senate committee hearing. I analyzed the FBI's 40-page Strategic Intelligence Assessment and data on domestic terrorism to help prepare questions for a Homeland Security Committee hearing with FBI Director Wray and Secretary Mayorkas.

What I learned most from the experience is that I never want to get into politics.
