TaskRabbit started in eleventh grade and kept running through college.

It was one of the clearest early lessons in direct value. The work was physical, customer-facing, and immediate. If I was useful, people came back. If I built trust, I could charge more.

Over time I built the profile up to the point where I was charging $125 an hour.

That chapter taught me a few practical things:

  • reliability compounds
  • reputation compounds
  • usefulness compounds

Long before I was working on startup ideas or AI tools, TaskRabbit taught me a street-level lesson: if people trust you, they come back, and if they come back, the work gets better.
